house design questions
it's not just something that you can go tothe store and pick up, it's a process with all these really talented guys coming togetherto build this thing with their hands. [music] my role in that day-to-day work is actuallykeeping the guys on schedule, making sure materials are on site, anticipating any problemsthat may arise and trying to come up with solutions to them before they become problematic.as a project manager, you really have to insure that you're really looking at the whole picture.you have to manage product timelines. a lot of products have lengthy delays, like cabinetry.anything that has the word "custom" before it, has a lengthy lead time. and then someof the material that you pick can have a tremendous lead time if it's something that's reallyunique and special. [music] your house doesn't
have to be massive to to be functional, aslong as you design it properly and design the spaces to work with each other so thatthey can achieve a level of multi use. then you don't have that dining room that's onlyused for... christmas gatherings. we can have a living room and a kitchen and a little dinettethat can be used to do your kids' homework projects or art projects. and at the sametime it can also be used as a family gathering space. i would even say go as far as creatinga scrapbook or a pinterest page with the ideas that you have. whether you realize it or not,you're gonna start to like the same sorts of images or the same sorts of colors. andyour architect can use those pictures to understand what you're looking for out of your home.[music] there are two space sin this house
that really excite me. they're the interstitialspaces or the transitional spaces from inside to outside. and to me, those are really importantin setting the stage for what you're about to encounter in the home. one of those spacesfor me is the front porch. on this home we have a very generous front porch where youcan get rocking chairs out there. the next space for me would be the screen porch. icould just see myself in there with that fireplace. you know sitting in there with my daughterand reading some books. and you know maybe even roasting marshmallows if mom isn't watching.but then from there you can transition outside to do other activities. so for me those spacesare truly special.
